Medical research has provided permanent information on the importance of substances that contain antioxidants in our daily diet, but what are antioxidants, and what foods should we eat to obtain them?

Nutritionists have defined antioxidants as natural compounds found primarily in plants that regulate many vital processes in the body and protect it from free radicals.

Free radicals cause oxidative stress. Over time, oxidative stress can damage cells, tissues and proteins, increasing the risk of chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's disease and heart disease.

Sami Brundo, a registered dietitian, says: eating a healthy diet rich in antioxidants may protect the body from developing serious diseases over time.

He believes that fruits, colored vegetables, and different grains contain different vitamins and minerals, and they must be relied upon in the correct diet.
