Green tea has been associated, for thousands of years, with its many medicinal benefits, and it ranks higher in benefits than other types of tea.

What is green tea?

Green tea is one of more than 1,000 types of tea, and it is a beverage with multiple benefits.

Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant that the other two most popular teas in America, black and oolong, come from.

What are the benefits of green tea?

USA Today quoted Dr. Carol Johnston, a professor of nutrition at Arizona State University, as saying: “Unlike many botanicals on the market, there are many clinical trials demonstrating that regular consumption of green tea has measurable health effects. ".

These benefits include improved brain function, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms and headaches, and aiding weight loss.

Johnston adds: "Green tea also contains active and healthy compounds such as polyphenols, which protect against inflammation and chronic diseases."

This drink also eliminates anxiety, protects against cancer and helps reduce body fat - especially around the waist.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) says it is "safe" to drink green tea every day.

However, green tea contains caffeine, a compound known to stimulate the central nervous system, which means that drinking too much of this substance can cause insomnia, headaches, and dehydration.
