The French National Center for Space Research presented a vehicle that will be launched in 2027 to the Red Planet, as part of the mission to explore the moons of Mars.

The center's media office indicates that this rover, called Idefix, is being designed in cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and is scheduled to begin collecting soil samples from the moon Phobos, which is considered the largest moon of Mars, in early 2027.

The weight of this vehicle is 25 kg and its length is 51 cm. It will not bring to Earth more than 10 grams of Phobos soil, and it could be damaged when it lands on its surface.

The French scientist Patrick Michel, who supervises the project, says: “We have no idea and information about its behavior on the surface of the aforementioned moon, which has not been well studied. Therefore, the soil samples that scientists will collect may help shed light on the history of the solar system and the environment of Mars.”
