The effect of praise and appreciation on children

One of the most important and basic needs of humans, especially children, is the need for appreciation and approval. All individuals live this hope that they will be in a position or situation that will gain the approval and appreciation of others.

A child does something at home and he does not know how good or bad it is. He wants to know whether what he has accomplished is acceptable or not? His parents’ approval of his work confirms to him that he must continue and pursue this path, and that the work he has accomplished is acceptable and appropriate. He also sometimes resorts to performing difficult and tiring tasks that his peers are unable to do. If his work is appreciated, the feeling of fatigue and exhaustion will completely disappear from him and he will be encouraged to continue doing so. Benefits of praise and appreciation:

- The reason for continuing the work:

Appreciating and encouraging the child becomes a reason for continuing the work that is to be accomplished, and a reason for the child to feel that his work is important, valuable, and should be performed continuously.

- Creating self-confidence and reliance on it:

Such a child trusts himself and feels some reassurance towards his work. This matter becomes the reason for him to show more firmness and seriousness in making the decision and implementing it.

- Balance in personality development:

Appreciation becomes the reason for the growth of the child's sense of independence, and for him to realize that he can depend on himself in the psychological and mental aspect, and for him to achieve a state of balance in all his dimensions and being.

- Feeling proud and cheerful:

The issue of securing the innate needs of a person is in itself a reason for feeling proud, cheerful and good-natured. His personality is revived through that,| and he is saved from feeling despair and pessimism.

- Correcting the nature:

There are many natures and morals that need to be corrected and reconsidered. The child's happiness with the work he has done, and treating him with appreciation and praise for that becomes a motive for him to correct his negatives and shortcomings as well.

- Developing the ability to learn:

Finally, the happiness resulting from appreciation and praise will become a reason for the child's ability to learn to develop, and his ability to innovate in this field will be stimulated. Hearing words of approval and praise from a teacher is in itself a motivator to push forward.
