debuccalized (adj.)

A term used in some models of NON-LINEAR PHONOLOGY to refer to CONSONANTS which lack an ORAL PLACE feature, such as GLOTTAL STOP or [h]. The process through which such consonants are formed is called debuccalization (also deoralization): examples include [t] >  and [s] > [h].
