Vowel systems PRICE

The PRICE set of words, corresponding to ME /i:/, is represented in Suriname creoles by the English words eye, cry, fly, tie, fight, night, white, ripe, wife, knife, time, find, and so on. The normal realization of these words in the Suriname creoles is [e], a short mid front vowel. This set falls together with the FACE and DRESS sets.

When the vowel is word-final we find variation between /e, ej, aj/ as in the FACE set.
