Chronic fatigue syndrome

A new research paper reveals that there is a possibility that a small number of viruses are linked to chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as "myalgic encephalomyelitis".

This came according to the "Science Alert" website, which indicated that the research paper was prepared by Maureen Hanson, a partial biologist at Cornell University, and it was published last August.

The site pointed out that Hanson again shed light on the causes that could be behind chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

The site pointed out that people with CFS suffer from various symptoms, most notably:

- Muscle pain

- Infections of the brain and spinal cord.

- Constant feeling of tiredness.

- Sleep instability.

- Insomnia.

- Feeling dizzy when standing up suddenly from a sitting position.

- Feeling of tightness after muscular effort.

Although chronic fatigue syndrome is recorded in single cases, the history of the disease indicates that there were some times when dozens of cases were monitored simultaneously, and some of them coincided with the spread of a viral infection.

The researcher who prepared the new research paper indicates that the number of people with chronic fatigue syndrome around the world is estimated at 67 million, according to 2020 statistics.

Hanson pointed out that since the emergence of the Corona pandemic and the spread of other viral diseases, this led researchers to consider the possibility of viruses remaining in tissues for long periods.

The researcher concluded that there is a high possibility that a group of enteric viruses is the main cause of chronic fatigue syndrome, noting that the analyzes for detecting viruses show their presence at the height of their intensity, but after they are weakened and trapped by the antibodies secreted by the body, the process of detecting them becomes not possible, This makes the link between viral illness and chronic fatigue syndrome very difficult.

For this reason, Maureen Hanson believes, it is possible to rely on modern genetic samples to detect the remnants of viruses lurking within human tissues, especially in the case of people with chronic fatigue syndrome, so that the virus that could be the cause of infection can be identified.
