Dr. Ashraf Muhammad Ali, a neurology consultant at Asyut College of Medicine in Egypt, explained that it is a mistaken belief to link Alzheimer’s with forgetfulness. Alzheimer’s disease actually causes forgetfulness, but there are many other reasons that cause a person to be prone to forgetfulness, whether it is words said or actions a person used to do before.
The neurology consultant added that the brain retains some things, especially those that are important to it, and forgets unnecessary things. This process is good for health because it improves brain functions. He pointed out that lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of forgetfulness, because it negatively affects brain functions, and therefore one must undergo healthy sleep consisting of 8 hours a night.
He added that having lupus exposes you to this matter as well, and is accompanied by other symptoms, including feeling extremely tired, headaches and dizziness. Some treatments also play a role in causing forgetfulness, including treatments for lupus, arthritis, and antidepressants.
The neurology consultant explained that exposure to psychological disorders increases the chances forgetfulness, as the cognitive functions of the brain are negatively affected, making you noticeably more vulnerable.
The neurology consultant provided some important advice that greatly contributes to reducing the risk of forgetfulness, including:
- Write down important information in your daily life, and the goals you want to achieve.
- Paying attention to good nutrition, which is rich in nutrients important for brain health, is one of the best tricks.
- Get enough sleep.
- Doing exercise.
