The rate of vocal fold vibration affects the perceived pitch of speech. The faster the rate of vibration of the vocal folds, the higher in pitch the speech signal will sound. Correspondingly, the lower the rate of vibration of the vocal folds, the lower in pitch the speech signal will sound.
