hortative (adj./n.)
A term sometimes used in the GRAMMATICAL analysis of VERBS, to refer to a type of MODAL meaning in which an exhortation is made. An example of a hortative usage (‘a hortative’) is the ‘let us’ construction in English (let us pray).
