intervocalic (adj.)
A term used in PHONETICS to refer to a CONSONANT sound used between two VOWELS, as in the /t/ of attack. The phonetic characteristics of consonants in this position are often different from those in other positions, e.g. the amount of VOICING in a voiced consonant is likely to be greater.
