Upgliding diphthongs
Characteristic of all of the upgliding diphthongs, of which there is one more than in most accents of English, is the phonetic characteristic that, unlike in other south-of-England varieties, the second element is most usually a fully close vowel, e.g. the FACE vowel is typically [æi] rather than
