Consonants /l/
/l/ was traditionally clear in all positions in northern rural East Anglian dialects, and this can still be heard from speakers born before 1920, but modern speech now has the same distribution of clear and dark allophones as RP. vocalization of /l/ does not occur in the north but is increasingly common in the south of the region.
