Consonants /r/
East Anglian English is non-rhotic, although the SED did record a few rhotic tokens on the Essex peninsulas.
Intrusive /r/ is the norm in East Anglia. It occurs invariably where the vowels occur before another vowel both across word and morpheme boundaries: drawing , draw it . Because of the high level of reduction of unstressed vowels to /ə/, intrusive /r/ occurs in positions where it would be unusual in other accents: e.g. Give it to Anne . Linking /r/ is essentially the same phenomenon and occurs additionally after /з:/.
