Monophthongs and diphthongs NEAR, SQUARE and CURE

The centring diphthongs found in standard metropolitan English NEAR, SQUARE and CURE are all realized as strongly articulated falling diphthongs. The second target is generally always an extra short but prominent [ɐ]. The first target of NEAR is [ɪ], that of SQUARE a retracted [ε], and that of CURE tends to be a [ʉ].
