In order to get the maximum current from a battery, the cells should be grouped in such a way that their internal resistance shall be as near as possible the same as the external resistance of the circuit. This means that if R is large, the cells should be grouped in series; if it is small, they should be in parallel; and if it is neither very large nor very small, such a grouping should be made as will make Sb/P=R, if possible.
