Verb compounds
The following combinations can give us compounds that function like verbs:
While the stress patterns of the first three combinations in this group of com pounds are like those of the previous groups (stress on the first element), it shifts to the second element for the last combination.
Compounds with more than two elements are almost always stressed on the first element (e.g. fly´-by-night, forgét-me-not, jáck-in-the-box , móther-in-law).
